    Very easy to use. Unboxed, plugged in one wire, downloaded the app and then connected to power. App found the device immediately. First attempt went well, albeit slow and stinky because I chose an extremely detailed design to test it with and ran it indoors on canvas board (the Native American shown). Following that, I brought it outside and have used it on leather, wood and paper. I have tinkered with speed, power and sizing because I am a first time beginner. You will want to hold your material steady and your machine. The machine vibrates as it works. You’ll see the partial image separate from the image it currently working on, in my video, that was with the leather clamped but the machine was not anchored. I aborted that image, used baling wire through the existing frame holes to go around a 12”x2” (or so) to steady it. That did help, a lot! I’m still getting the hang of this, but I’m very happy with this little thing. I’m sure if I had already been proficient, this wouldn’t be enough, but for beginners/hobbyists—it’s very nice!

   This little laser was a pleasant surprise. It does beautiful work engraving and far exceeded my expectations. The software is a bit limited but with working around using some other software to get my images to be in a format that works with the laser it performs very well and is capable of very fine detail even on a very small image.My workaround is take a screen shot of any file found or created. Then save in a file for the laser images. From my image file, I put that image into Microsoft paint then save it as a jpeg. Then drop and drag or import that file into the NEJE software and off it goes.

   Loving this laser so far. It does good cuts and has very detailed abilities for engraving. The NEJE software is a good starter software preloaded with tons of graphics so you can try out your new laser engraver. However, it is somewhat limited in functionality and customizability, so to truly unlock this laser’s potential, I would highly advise investing in Lightburn. Any serious hobbyist should consider that and to finish it off – invest in making an air assist mod to super clean cuts with no burnt/browned edges. This laser is very capable so those two upgrades are very worthwhile investment.Unfortunately my laser stopped working a few days into owning it. However, after emailing NEJE, they determined my diode had issues and sent me a new one! Shipping wasn’t very quick. It took roughly two weeks to get here. However, the customer service I experienced was top notch. I have been in the 3d printing/maker hobbies for a long time so I understand that sometimes these machines can have quirks. The difference is the manufacturer’s support and after-sale service was there and the replacement was easy.Im still rating this 5 stars. My laser is perfectly fine now: Running Lightburn on Mac OSX and the laser is modded with a 3D printed nozzle and a compact 15psi airbrush compressor

   This laser is a good value for what it is – a Chinese mini laser suitable for engraving wood and soft materials. Note that the mini is **not** compatible with Lightburn, or Linux (the bigger Neje model is, this one is not). The manufacturer has a weak command of English, but they seem to try hard.The whole assembly is quite small – ideal for tasks under 3″ x 3″. The Q-code support is weak, but manageable. Q-code text generates text outlines only, forget doing fancy text with Q-code. My process is this: Inkscape (or Gimp) to SVG or PNG or JPG, then upload in the native Neje app.The laser can focus from 5mm to 50mm – basically, right under the lens to the tabletop. I suggest using a 1-inch platform under the active area of the laser, which should be ideal for focusing. Too close, and soot will obscure or damage the lens. Too far (on the tabletop, for example), and resolution takes a big hit. In the middle is about right – and you won’t burn a hole in your work surfaces, like I did (twice!).The default settings are a great starting point. Highly reflective objects (bright white note cards, for example) are very hard to engrave properly. cardboard-like materials and wooden craft plaques are quite easy to engrave.Lasers are not toys – be sure to wear the safety goggles.I have enjoyed using this laser quite a bit – for the price and size, it’s hard to beat. I bought wood plaques from Michael’s craft store, and online, for practice.EDIT: G-code is the way to go. This way -> Inkscape -> SVG – GRBL -> G-code -> Neje softwareEDIT: Even at a very low setting, this laser can draw on leather amazingly well. The laser cannot cut leather – you need a 40 watt laser for that – but marking is super easy. Leather’s easier to mark than wood or paper. Very good results.EDIT: Get a Dropbox account, and definitely add the NEJE and DropBox apps to your phone. The NEJE app + Dropbox is a good combo. No attached computer, very convenient. Download files from anywhere.

   I was skeptical about the claim of a setup in only a few minutes. It is true. The unit comes beautifully packed and mostly assembled. I had it up and ready for software in about 10 minutes.The instructions are minimal and there are lots of on-line resources and YouTube videos that walk you through the software install and setup.The software that comes with the machine via download is adequate, but the real power of the engraver is realized with commercial software such as Lightburn. I was doing my first cut within about a half hour of opening the box.Be sure to have a disposable surface under the engraver. You will make a mistake and burn through something you are intending to engrave. I now have some interesting new patterns on my workbench top.The results you get for engraving and cutting vary greatly. Results are very material and surface dependent. Finding the right settings of power and speed and pass count is a trial and error process. Once found, results are amazing!Be advise that the Max (810mm by 410mm) takes up a LOT of table space. the work area is about 16″ by 32″ and the actual machine is larger. Plan lots of space.Pros- excellent quality hardware- mostly per-assembled- outstanding packaging- tremendous value- really nice resultsCons- inadequate instructions.. you MUST get online for instructions and software- focus wheel is difficult to reach and use.- focus is critical and difficult to get right (may be my inexperience)- software user interface is not intuitive – watch some YouTube or read how-to sites.Wishes- I wish I had bought the 40W. A lot more power for a little more money.– the 30W works great, I am trying to do some heavy cutting which is hard on it.In summary, easy to set up, easy for first light, and the results are impressive. I highly recommend this machine.

   I ordered this machine after researching and figured I’d try this one to fill a corporate order of cutting boards as I needed to engrave a logo on each board. I am very happy with this machine. I watched the set-up video once and was able to put it together out of the box and start engraving in literally 15 minutes. NEJE software is very basic and easy to understand. If you are wanting to get into smaller gigs this product is a solid option. I have no experience with lasers or engraving and it was so easy to get going. The machine itself is good quality and solid. Honestly can’t believe a product exists like this for $200. I may opt for the more powerful laser and look into other software programs but I am 100% happy with this purchase.

   The only complaints that I really have about this machine is that the instructions are not the greatest. You’re told to go to a link on YouTube and watch videos but it’s not the easiest to understand. Also everything is in millimeters. There’s no setting to change that. I figure if you get to choose your language to English you should at least get to choose your rule of measurement. Honestly this is a great machine for the price I just was a little disappointed in the instructional aspect of it. However I do have to say that I am learning the more I go. If you’re on Facebook you can become a part of some of the neje groups and people will help you as well. Well worth the money.

   I opened the box, set the ready to run laser engraver on my desk. I loaded the simple to use software.within 5 minutes I was testing it……..this little machine is more than amazing……I definitely recommend to everybody

    I usually do not write reviews. However I feel like I need to do this one. It took me almost a month to purchase small laser. I was going back-and-forth between three products. I don’t have any experience carving, I have no experience using a laser, I have never even seen anybody use one. I have to say I am very happy with this little one. For the work that I needed to be done which was keychains for my business this little thing that amazingly well.I do have to say that I spent hours trying to figure out how to install the software on the computer. I gave up because it didn’t work I cannot say whether that was my computer or some fault in the software. I gave up an install the app on my iPhone and it works just fine. It did take a little adjustment on the depth of the burn but after all I figure it out. Uploading images as easy as can be.

    This 5.5 watt output power laser is very well designed, compact and easy to use. The NEJE app is very simple to use and is a good way to get started. For more advanced features and applications I find the Lightburn app provides the user with very fine control and flexibility at a very affordable price. The NEJE.app and Lightburn work very well with a Mac, a bonus for Mac users! The 5.5 watt output power is more than adequate for most common engraving and cutting work with the exception of cutting and engraving metals and transparent materials, which require much greater power and expense.I find the NEJE Laser Engraver provides a terrific bang for the buck, is well designed, works as expected and more, and well supported with software.While I rate this laser engraver highly for beginners, users must respect the power of this laser! There is no room for safety lapses while using it since the laser is capable of causing serious eye damage and blindness in a fraction of a second, before you can blink! Use the provided safety goggles! While not strictly required, I built an enclosure using 1/8 inch yellow acrylic around the laser engraver to contain beam reflections as an additional safety measure.
